1The Vietnamese audio is not working

Audio is generated by your phone’s text-to-speech (TTS) engine, so it needs a Vietnamese voice installed. Nothing is downloaded by Vietgo itself.

On Android: open your phone’s Settings and search for “Text to Speech”. Select your TTS engine (usually Google) and look for “Install additional languages” to add Vietnamese.

On iPhone or iPad: open Settings › Accessibility › Spoken Content › Voices › Vietnamese, and download one of the voices offered there.

You can then verify it works in Vietgo under Settings › Audio & Accent › Test voice. If the test fails, an error message will appear; send it to us at contact@ruminskilabs.com and we will help.

The same page lists every Vietnamese voice your phone has, so you can pick the one you like best.

2Northern or Southern — which voice am I hearing?

Whichever one your phone installed. Vietnamese voices are all labelled just “vi-VN”, with nothing to say which region they speak, so the Northern/Southern setting cannot pick one for you. It changes the pronunciation guides and the tone chart; the voice you choose by ear under Settings › Audio & Accent.

3What is Vietgo?

Vietgo is an all-in-one Vietnamese learning app for English speakers. At its core is a comprehensive offline dictionary, and around it sit graded short stories, grammar guides, everyday phrases, a Sounds & Tones trainer and spaced-repetition tests.

4Which level is Vietgo for?

All levels, from your very first word up to roughly B2. Stories, grammar points and word lists are graded A1 to B2, so you can start wherever you like and jump ahead whenever you like.

5Is Vietgo free?

Yes, completely. There is no subscription, no paid tier, no ads and nothing to unlock. Every story, grammar point, phrase, test type and list is available to everyone from the first launch.

6Do I need internet or an account?

Neither. Vietgo works fully offline: the dictionary, stories, grammar and phrases are bundled with the app, and your lists, favourites and progress are stored on your device. The app never makes network requests; the only things that leave it are actions you start yourself, such as sharing or sending an email.

There are also no accounts, sign-ins or cloud sync. Everything you study is saved locally on your phone. Keep in mind that uninstalling the app or wiping its data will also remove your learning progress.

7Which Vietnamese does Vietgo teach?

Northern (Hanoi) Vietnamese is the default for spelling, vocabulary and pronunciation guides. Where Southern usage differs, the entry shows both, and you can switch the preferred accent under Settings › Audio & Accent.

8How do the tests and spaced repetition work?

Words you save to lists and grammar points you favourite become cards. Each time you answer a card, Vietgo schedules it again sooner or later depending on how well you knew it, so you spend your time on the words that need it. Your recent mistakes and “critical” words are also surfaced on the Home tab.

9Where does the dictionary come from?

Vietgo is built on openly licensed Vietnamese data: definitions and pronunciations from the English Wiktionary (via kaikki.org), extra entries from the OVDP Việt-Anh dictionary, example sentences from Tatoeba, and word-frequency ranks from the Leipzig Corpora Collection. Every source, what it contributed and its licence are listed on the Terms page and in the app under Settings › About. The stories, grammar points and phrases are written for Vietgo.

10How do I delete my data?

There is no account to delete and nothing of yours on any server, so there is nothing for us to erase — Vietgo collects no data at all, with no analytics, no crash reporting and no sign-in. Your lists and progress never leave your device.

To remove everything you have created, uninstall the app, or clear its storage (on Android: Settings › Apps › Vietgo › Storage › Clear data). Either one is permanent: we hold no copy and cannot restore it. Note that your phone’s own device backup may still contain a copy, which is governed by your device settings rather than by the app. Full detail is in the Privacy Policy.

11How often is new content added?

New stories, grammar points and phrases ship with app updates from the app store. Because everything is bundled, there is nothing to download inside the app.

12How do I report a problem or suggest a feature?

Use the Send feedback button in the app, under Settings › About or at the bottom of the in-app FAQ. It opens your mail app with a draft addressed to contact@ruminskilabs.com; you can also write to that address directly. Every message is read and shapes what gets built next.

If you have spotted a wrong translation, an unnatural sentence or a typo in a story, tell us the word or the story title and what looked wrong. Accuracy reports are the most useful mail we get.
